Job Description

A. Job Purpose:
To design, analyze, and develop high-performance underground power transmission
systems (typically 110 kV to 380 kV and above), ensuring reliability, safety, and
compliance with international standards and utility specifications.
B. Key Responsibilities:
1. Design & Engineering
• Prepare detailed electrical designs for EHV/HV underground cable systems,
including:
• Cable route selection and optimization
• Cable sizing and rating calculations (ampacity, voltage drop, short-circuit
ratings)
• Thermal analysis and soil resistivity studies
• Shielding, earthing, and bonding system design
• Reactive compensation and sheath voltage calculations
• Develop single-line diagrams (SLDs), layout drawings, and schematic
diagrams.
• Prepare cable cutting lengths.
• Prepare cable pulling calculations and installation method statements.
• Select appropriate cable types, joints, terminations, link boxes, and
accessories.
2. Technical Studies
• Perform electrical system studies, such as:
• Load flow, short-circuit, and protection coordination
• Transient and steady-state sheath voltage studies
• Insulation coordination and induced voltage analysis
• Thermal and electromagnetic field (EMF) analysis
• Evaluate and optimize cable system reliability and losses.
3. Standards & Compliance
• Ensure all designs comply with IEC, IEEE, CIGRÉ, BS, and local utility
standards.
• Review vendor drawings and technical documents to verify compliance
with project requirements.
• Prepare and review technical specifications, data sheets, and tender
documents.
4. Project Management & Coordination
• Coordinate with civil, mechanical, and telecommunication teams on
trench design, ducts, and interfaces.
• Support procurement, construction, and commissioning teams with
technical guidance.
• Participate in factory acceptance tests (FATs) and site acceptance tests
(SATs).
• Provide as-built documentation and technical support during project
handover.
• Ensure designs meet safety, environmental, and operational reliability
standards.
• Identify and mitigate design-related risks early in the project lifecycle.
• Participate in design reviews and HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk
Assessment) activities.

Desired Candidate Profile

Any Arab National, Saudi Arabian, Indian, Pakistani

Bachelor of Technology/Engineering(Electrical, Electronics/Telecomunication)

Any

Strong knowledge of: • Power system analysis • Cable ampacity and thermal modeling • Sheath bonding and earthing systems • EMF and induced voltage studies • Proficiency in software design such as: • CYMCAP, ETAP, Dig SILENT Power Factory, ATP/EMTP, AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, or Cable HV Design Tools • Good understanding of IEC 60287, IEC 60853, IEC 62067, IEC 60840, CIGRÉ TB 194/398, etc. • Excellent writing and presentation skills. • Strong coordination and communication with multi-disciplinary teams.

7+ years of experience in HV/EHV underground cable design or transmission system projects.
