Job Description
The Microbiology Specialist is responsible for performing and supervising microbiological testing of drinking water, wastewater, and food samples using microscopic and laboratory analysesto identify bacteria, parasites, worms, fermentable substances, microorganisms, and organic materials.
The specialist must be fully familiar with:
Membrane filtration techniques
Multiple-tube fermentation methods
Standard plate count techniques
Gram staining
Bacterial culture preparation
The Senior Microbiology Technician oversees quality control procedures of materials and ensures performance quality assurance in the microbiology laboratory. The specialist must manage laboratory operations, maintain adequate inventory of consumables and materials required for microbiological testing, and coordinate with the Environmental Health Department of the Royal Commission regarding laboratory activities related to public health testing of food samples.
The specialist is also responsible for training and developing the technical skills of other laboratory personnel working in the microbiology section.

Male
Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology or an equivalent qualification
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
Proficiency in spoken and written English
Strong knowledge of laboratory management and quality control
