Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

1. Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
Oversee the maintenance of refining machinery, including melting furnaces, crucibles, chillers, pumps, compressors, and filtration systems.
Diagnose mechanical failures and perform corrective actions to minimise downtime.
Implement a preventive maintenance schedule to enhance equipment reliability.

2. Process Optimisation & Efficiency:
Analyse mechanical systems to reduce melting loss, improve energy efficiency, and optimise production output.
Research and recommend improvements for furnace operations, chiller efficiency, and heat recovery systems.
Ensure smooth operation of conveyors, mixers, and cooling systems used in refining.

3. Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance (HSE):
Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, especially in high-temperature environments.
Enforce zero tolerance for safety violations related to furnaces and mechanical systems.
Work with HSE officers to implement best practices for worker safety and air filtration systems.

4. Project Management & Research:
Conduct research on advanced refining technologies, PPE selection, and energy-saving methods.
Assist in facility expansions, new equipment installations, and layout improvements.
Prepare technical reports and proposals for process upgrades.

5. Consumables & Spare Parts Management:
Maintain sufficient stock of crucibles, moulds, filters, and spare parts to prevent production delays.
Work with procurement to source high-quality mechanical components.

6. Supervision & Team Coordination:
Train and supervise maintenance technicians and machine operators.
Collaborate with chemists, metallurgists, and production managers to ensure seamless operations.
Conduct weekly and monthly maintenance reviews and report findings.
