Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Materials Engineer to support warehouse operations. The role focuses on the proper handling, inspection, classification, and quality control of engineering and process materials, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, industry standards, and safety protocols relevant to fertilizer plant operations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Material Handling & Classification

Review and verify technical specifications of incoming engineering materials, spare parts, and consumables used in urea and ammonia plants.
Classify materials based on mechanical, chemical, and thermal properties to ensure compatibility with process systems handling corrosive and hazardous chemicals.
Ensure materials (e.g., stainless steel, alloys, gaskets, valves, instrumentation components) are suitable for use in high-temperature and corrosive environments.
2. Inspection & Quality Assurance

Perform visual and technical inspections of incoming and stored materials to ensure compliance with engineering standards (e.g., ASTM, ASME, ISO).
Verify certificates of conformity (CoC), material test certificates (MTC), and safety data sheets (SDS/MSDS) for all received items.
Identify non-conforming materials and coordinate with quality and procurement departments for resolution.
3. Warehouse Optimization & Inventory Management

Ensure proper storage conditions for corrosion-sensitive or hazardous materials (e.g., desiccants, seals, catalysts, coated components).
Monitor and manage shelf life of time-sensitive materials (e.g., gaskets, chemicals, lubricants).
Support accurate binning, labeling, and traceability of materials using ERP systems (e.g., SAP or Oracle).
4. Technical Support

Work closely with maintenance and operations teams to provide guidance on material selection for repairs, shutdowns, or modifications in urea and ammonia production units.
Support procurement in selecting alternate materials or suppliers based on technical equivalency.
Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) of material failure in storage or usage.
5. Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

Ensure materials are handled and stored in compliance with HSE standards, especially for hazardous or reactive substances.
Participate in periodic audits, inspections, and safety drills related to material storage and handling.
Promote safe work practices in the warehouse and material staging areas.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, or a related field.
Knowledge of materials used in chemical processing environments, such as corrosion-resistant alloys, PTFE, carbon steel, stainless steel, and heat-resistant components.
Familiarity with warehouse and inventory systems (e.g., SAP MM module).
Strong understanding of material compatibility with ammonia, urea
Experience with reading and interpreting P&IDs, material datasheets, and technical specifications.
Excellent documentation, inspection, and reporting skills.
Commitment to safety and environmental standards.
