Heavy Forklift Operator
Job Description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To handle port equipment while carrying out duties in a safe and careful manner.
2. To transport cargo using Forklift trucks/ Pay loader in a safe and careful manner within shed, yard and quayside.
3. To ensure Forklift truck / Pay loader are always in good condition and report any faults or damages immediately to the supervisor.
4. To pre-check equipment before operating thus always following Port safety procedures.
5. To handle empty and loaded containers for loading and discharging in a prompt and efficient manner.
6. Prior to operating machinery ensure the respective area is clear of pedestrians or obstacles for safety purposes.
7. To take special care when handling containers containing dangerous cargo in compliance with the safety procedures.
8. To ensure mechanical / electrical defects to the allotted machinery is rectified to avoid wastage in time and cost.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Operations – Cargo/Asset Management –
Yard Operations: Reviews the space allocation of DP World’s yards and provides recommendations to optimize yard planning activities and maximize efficiency and utilization of the yard.
Operations – Operations Project/ Resource Management
Developing Project or Resource Plans: Identifies project resources required and seeks additional resources for any project support.
Monitoring Task or Project Progress: Communicates multiple aspects of tasks or a project simultaneously (e.g., project deadlines, resources, outcomes, budgets, performance to specifications and requirements) and guides others in order to attain the team’s objectives.
Managing and Optimizing Resources: Assesses the various risk conditions and accordingly, coaches and encourages others to learn and follow safety standards.
Operations – Operations Safety Standards
Knowledge of Safety Standards: Develops DP World’s policies and procedures related to community safety.
Operations – Operations Support
Completing Operational Activities: Successfully coordinates multiple activities simultaneously; serves as an expert consultant when obstacles emerge that may hinder progress; serves as a good reference and resource when help is needed.
Dealing with Government Bodies: Coaches and guides others to complete processes in full compliance with the regulatory authorities; develops relationships with key regulatory bodies.

Work Experience: Minimum 2 to 4 years of work experience within the port industry handling port operations or equivalent.
