Job Description
Overseeing all radiation safety programs, ensuring compliance with regulations, and managing NDT radiation-related operations. Key responsibilities include implementing safety procedures, training personnel, conducting safety surveys, and managing licenses and documentation for radiation use, particularly in NDT methods. The role requires a combination of strong technical knowledge of NDT and a thorough understanding of radiation safety practices.
Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive radiation safety policies and procedures in line with local regulations and to ensure they are both technically sound and meet safety requirements.
Ensure all radiation-related NDT activities are compliant with the organization’s license and all applicable regulations. This includes overseeing the use of radioactive materials and ensuring security.
Conduct and supervise radiation safety training for all personnel who handle radioactive materials, including training on emergency procedures.
Perform regular radiation surveys, leak tests, and internal audits to ensure the safety and integrity of equipment and work areas.
Maintain detailed and accurate records of all radiation-related activities, including training, dosimetry, equipment usage, and incident reports.
Serve as the primary point of contact with regulatory bodies, manage license renewals, and handle all required reporting.
Develop and implement emergency procedures and lead the response to any safety incidents involving radiation.
Ensure all radiation-producing equipment used for NDT is properly calibrated and maintained.
Communicate safety requirements and procedures to clients and field technicians to ensure safe operations on project sites.
The RSO may also be required to perform some general NDT work as part of their responsibilities.
