Job Description

Planning

1. Plan collaboratively with subject teachers, class/subject teachers and coordinators.

2. Planning based on student learning outcomes derived from the Canadian curriculum

3. Planning evaluation strategies throughout the planning process

4. Plan according to a range of ability levels so that all students are challenged through differentiation.

5. Working in collaboration with educational support

Teaching

1. Use a variety of teaching strategies;

2. Based on students’ prior knowledge;

3. Use a variety of resources with emphasis on implementing technology meaningfully;

4. Actively engage students in their own learning;

5. Providing experiences in critical thinking, communication, and personal and social relationships;

6. Maintaining ongoing awareness of the needs of second language learners;

7. Meeting the needs of students with different levels and types of ability through differentiation.

8. Promote the physical, mental, behavioral and social development of students;

9. Work in collaboration with educational support to enhance learning in the classroom.

Evaluation

1. Use a variety of assessment strategies (formative and summative);

2. Involve students and colleagues in the evaluation process;

3. Engage students in shared reflection throughout each unit;

4. Engaging students in seeing assessment as a means of describing their learning;

5. Assess and determine individual students’ understanding before embarking on new learning;

6. Ensure continuous assessments of students’ learning and development (through classwork, homework, tests, assignments, courses, and labs) for the next step of learning;

7. Ensure that students provide feedback to teachers on their teaching strategies, for example, a student questionnaire to help teachers reflect and adjust their teaching strategies for further improvement;

8. Share expected learning outcomes with students and parents to improve learning;

9. Ensure that all assessments are accurate, fair, reliable and practical;

10. Collect and record relevant assessment data for reporting purposes; this data should be used to improve student learning;

11. Implement, review and reflect on assessment policies outlined in the Canadian curriculum.

Bachelor of Education (Teaching)

Bachelor of Education
Teachers must be eligible to apply and meet the requirements for a British Columbia teaching certificate (applications from Canadian provinces are welcome)
Possess a British Columbia teaching certificate or teaching certificate from another Canadian province or have a teaching certificate in a foreign English-speaking specialty and meet the requirements of the British Columbia Teacher Regulation Branch (5-year bachelor’s degree obtained in English and a teaching certificate)
Active, creative, and able to meet the challenges of a rapidly growing school.
Understanding a personal approach to learning and assessment
Have training or understanding of the inquiry approach to teaching and learning
Familiar with classroom teaching methods with integrated learning approaches (as opposed to subject-based learning)
Familiar with 21st century teaching and learning
