Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Construction of power infrastructure, including Overhead Lines (OHL), substations, and relay protection. Here’s a breakdown of responsibilities:
1. Overhead Lines (OHL):
Design and Planning: Engineers design OHL systems, considering factors like terrain, load requirements, and environmental impact.
Material Selection: They choose suitable materials for conductors, insulators, and towers to ensure durability and efficiency.
Structural Analysis: Perform calculations for mechanical strength to withstand environmental factors like wind, ice, and temperature changes.
Quality Assurance: Oversee the erection of towers, installation of conductors, and ensure compliance with design specifications.
Testing and Commissioning: Conduct testing to ensure the OHL operates as expected before it goes live.
2. Substations:
Design Coordination: Engineers are responsible for the layout and design of substation equipment, including transformers, switchgear, and busbars.
Installation Oversight: Supervise the assembly and installation of electrical and mechanical components.
Integration: Ensure seamless integration with OHL and other parts of the power network.
Safety Standards: Implement safety measures and ensure the substation adheres to regulatory requirements.
Testing: Perform tests on equipment like circuit breakers and transformers to validate functionality and reliability.
3. Relay Protection:
Protection Scheme Design: Develop and implement schemes to detect faults and isolate them quickly to prevent damage.
Device Configuration: Set up relays, breakers, and protective devices according to system requirements.
Coordination Studies: Ensure that protective devices operate in the correct sequence.
Diagnostics: Monitor and diagnose issues in the relay protection system.
Upgradation: Modernize protection systems as needed to include digital relays and smart grid technology.
General Responsibilities:
Project Management: Coordinate with multiple teams, including civil engineers, project managers, and contractors.
Documentation: Maintain detailed records of designs, installations, and tests for future reference.
Compliance: Ensure all processes adhere to industry standards and government regulations.
Engineers are instrumental in ensuring power infrastructure is efficient, reliable, and safe, supporting both immediate operational needs and long-term sustainability.
